Problem

Diabetes is a complicated condition. People living with this chronic disease have to make over one hundred, condition-specific decisions, every day. All of these decisions need to be carefully weighed up and can have a huge impact on people’s short-term well-being as well as their long-term health.

The decisions range from counting carbs, titrating insulin, meal planning, life style, and day-to-day activities. It is an ongoing treatment that needs to be adjusted to each individual and for each situation.

So why, if every person and their respective lifestyle is unique, is treatment so standardized?  Additionally, the continuous management is a major effort. Diabetics are required to constantly analyse different streams of data including the cross analysis of clinical data, such as insulin dose and blood sugar measurements, as well as a person’s individual life situation. Data collection and data analysis are extremely complex and onerous for the patient.


 

Solution

xbird addresses these challenges by simplifying therapy. We use the latest technology in the field of artificial intelligence to process data streams and to provide personalized assistance to enable better treatment.

We are providing a service to medical device and pharma companies to achieve higher patient engagement, reduce patient burden and work towards improving patient outcomes. Gaining access to xbird technology requires integrating our software via SDK. After analyzing the data, we are able to send smart therapy adherence messaging to patients. We can provide a tailored service for every software, measurement and injection device.

We can find out the patient’s individual needs and are able to support the patient with the right information, giving them the right nudge at the right time. This works by utilizing our proprietary technology platform. xbird technology processes signals from sensors in common smartphones and wearables. These signals can be automatically translated into activities, routines and behavioural patterns. Combining contextual data with blood sugar and insulin data provides additional insights and enables tailored therapy.

In a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, we are working on classifying hypo- and hyperglycemic events using machine learning algorithms. Our ultimate goal is timely messaging to the patient in order to prevent possible hypo- or hyperglycemic events. With this project, we aim to improve life quality of the patient, as well as medical outcomes.
